I’m a book hoarder. It’s not that I’m necessarily proud of it, but I am not ashamed of it, either.

The thing about books is that they are a great way to soothe an anxious mind and help you unwind after a long day at work. They’re also easy to make your room feel homey and cosy, especially if you have an entire bookshelf dedicated to them!

Last year I decided to put an end to it.

So I have set to read 52 books in 2022.

Which was a challenging endeavour. Not a slightly easy one, but attainable with a pinch of goodwill and a reasonable amount of self-discipline.

How did I do it?

  1. Set a Goal
I set myself a goal: Read 52 books each week, one book.

Did I achieve it?

No, I didn’t. Then, in the middle of the year, I realised that my goal was not achievable…yet. But it kept me going.

𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮𝟴 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝟱𝟮 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝗻𝗲.

2. Set a system for reading.
For me, it was this. I saw the number of pages the book had, divided by seven days. Then I marked each day’s bundle with a post-it note. I had a clear vision of how much I had to read daily. Sometimes it was hard, but I kept pushing myself to reach the next post.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲.

And the following few things:

* Read a book that you feel will make you a better person.

* Read a book that you can relate to.

* Read a book that inspires you.

* Read books that challenge your beliefs.

And most of all, give yourself space to set aside a book that doesn’t relate to you. It may not be the right timing.

In 2023 I have the same goal.
52 books.

Will I achieve it?

𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲. 𝗜 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟮𝟴 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲.
